Trying to sing this as a vocal gymnastics exercise with these thin voices that you wouldn't be able to hear without a microphone past the third row isn't exciting at all. When they are tyring to hit extra, unnecessary notes - it isn't even harmonizing - they aren't singing full voice, tyhere is no power or support in their voices, and it comes off amateurish and boring. Donna was a belter, ans she could blow the roof off of a theater wtih her powerful voice. I took a friend to see her in Los Angeles and he was surprised that her voice was that strong. He said, "I didn't know she sang like this. The power in her voice doesn't translate to the recordings like this. She's amazing! Which is why I sadly have to say that if you haven't heard DONNA SUMMER sing LIVE and IN PERSON, you have never heard her sing. The experience is amazing. I am so sad I will never hear her sing LIVE and IN PERSON again, but hopefully in the next life, I will. She won't be singing her hit songs, but she does sing where she is, and her voice can bend the universe. Donna Summer had the most powerful voice in the business. At an outdoor amphitheater, she held out a note, the music stopped, and slowly lowered the microphone on its stand to the floor... her voice gradually fading from the sound system as the mic lowered. I looked around trying to hear what direction the sound was coming from, but it wsn't coming from any speaker. Once the mic reached the floor, she kept holding that note out, and her voice, without the sound system amplification, FILLED that roofless theater. When she let go of the note and opened her eyes, she looked almost scared as she looked around searching for something. The venue was dead silent, you could have heard a pin drop. It seemed like the silence lasted a lopng time, but it was likely just seconds, and then someone started clapping. Then, the entire place went wild, screaming, cheering, yelling whistling. I looked around and saw people wiping tears from their cheeks. We all had the same shared experience, we were all trying to grasp what had just occured. It was one of those rare events when time stands still for just a moment. Donna Summer stopped time for a split second -- because she could and just because she felt like it. That occurred about half way through the concert, so when it was time to leave, I stood between to exists and listened. Nearly everyone was still talking about that note she held out and filled the place without use of the sound system. I also saw tears. I will never forget that experience for as long as I live. It was my friend's first Donna Summer concert, and I even asked her, Did that really happen? She said, YES! She held out that note, dropped the mic to the floor, and her voice still filled this place!! So, wherever I go, I talke a little SUMMER with me. I am grateful she was on this planet and was able to share her talent. I am also grateful that I got to work with her on three projects and that she loved me - sometimes she would say she was my Mom and other times she would say she was my sister. And, she was. But, sometimes she was also my Fairy godmother who made some of my dreams come true. The world is a little less bright without her in it. Her smile could light up a room, and she was one of the funniest people I have ever known. Happy to have known her.
